Professor Dr. Adnan Hussein Ali Al-Wakaa, the Head of the Department of Field Crop Sciences at the College of Agriculture, University of Diyala, participated as the chair of the committee for the defense of a Master’s thesis at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad. The thesis, presented by the student Alaa Hamil Mahdi from the Department of Field Crop Sciences, is entitled “The Effect of Irrigation Intervals and Weed Control on the Growth and Yield of Yellow Corn.”
The study aimed to investigate the effect of irrigation intervals on weed growth and its impact on crop competition, as well as to identify the optimal concentration of herbicide for weed control while conserving water usage. Additionally, the study examined the effect of irrigation intervals on the growth and yield of yellow corn plants. The researcher recommended conducting further studies on the impact of other herbicides and their effects on weed growth, as well as using new herbicides applied at different stages (before planting, after planting, and after germination). She also recommended that irrigation intervals should not exceed 9 days due to their negative effects on growth and yield.
Professor Dr. Adnan Hussein Ali Al-Wakaa received a certificate of appreciation from the Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad.
