Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmad Bahjat Khaleef, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Diyala, participated as a member of the doctoral dissertation defense committee at the College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul. The dissertation, presented by the student Faeza Ali Rashid, is entitled “Evaluation of Mixed Stands and the Effect of Species Mixture on Tree and Stand Growth in the Atrosh Forest.”
The dissertation, submitted by the student in the Department of Forest Sciences, focused on evaluating mixed and pure forest stands of great significance for determining the various products and services they provide. This was achieved using remote sensing techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), relying on the Sentinel-2 satellite, the Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and the ArcGIS 10.8 software to map elevations above sea level, slope aspects, and gradients in the study area. A supervised classification process of the satellite imagery for the growing season was conducted, which resulted in distinguishing six land use categories: forests, soil, water, roads, agricultural lands, and vegetation cover. To determine the proportion of each class, the total area and percentage for each category in the site were calculated.
Dr. Ahmad Bahjat Khaleef was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul.
