A faculty member from the College of Agriculture chaired the committee for a master’s thesis defense at the University of Thi Qar and received a letter of appreciation and recognition.
Professor Raed Sami Ati chaired the committee for the master’s thesis defense of the student Hiba Mwafaq Khudair at the College of Agriculture and Marshlands, University of Thi Qar. The thesis, titled “A Study on the Growth of Two Species of Cultured Fish: Common Carp and Grass Carp in Floating Cages in the Euphrates River,” examined the growth performance of these fish under different farming conditions.
The study included four treatments with varying stocking densities in both monoculture and polyculture systems. It aimed to analyze the environmental factors of the water in the targeted area of the Euphrates River, focusing on parameters such as dissolved oxygen, water temperature, pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids, salinity, and muscle composition at the beginning and end of the farming period.
The researcher concluded that survival rates were higher in polyculture cages compared to monoculture ones. Additionally, the economic feasibility was greatest in cages with a stocking density of 52 fish per cubic meter due to the increase in biomass.
