Due to the College of Agriculture at the University of Diyala’s dedication to the agricultural sector—recognized as one of the greatest potentials for generating employment opportunities both in the present and the future—and to the adoption of more sustainable agricultural practices and improved management, the college has conducted scientific research in response to the requirements of sustainable development. This includes the selection of salt-tolerant and drought-resistant varieties. In this context, Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Ali Majid from the Department of Field Crop Sciences conducted research on the sunflower crop, focusing on the use of superior varieties and floral stimulants.
The study aimed to identify salt-tolerant varieties of sunflower and to determine the optimal concentration of the floral stimulant, Floratone, in achieving the best yield characteristics and seed vitality and vigor.
The researcher recommends cultivating the “Shamoos” variety of sunflower in saline soils and using the floral stimulant Floratone to enhance both the quantity and quality of production.
