About the Department
The Department of Horticulture & Landscaping was established in 2004 to be a sponsor of the agricultural sector in Iraq with specialized scientific staff in the fields of plant production. The department has a teaching staff including most of the specialties of plant sciences. The academic program includes teaching theoretical lessons and practical training in laboratories and plant fields, Which enable the department’s graduates to work, manage and improve the horticulture projects in the public and private sectors.
Vision
The Department Horticulture & Landscaping Department is planning for continuously acquire the material resources and high technologies that qualify the department achievements for the Iraqi society and humanity, by building a sound sciences and formulating the high tradition values.
The department of Horticulture & Landscaping is planting the seeds of ambition, perseverance and creativity in the graduates and qualifying them to overcome competition and challenges in the fields of agricultural sciences and fields of production alike, requires that the demand for knowledge and modernization approach in life.
Mission
The Department’s mission is an extension of the mission of the College of Agriculture to which it belongs, to be A fountain of pure source of science. The department is keen to adopt modern technologies and strict standards for teaching and training students in order to obtain outstanding educational and training graduates. The department aimed to be a part of the great scientific and technological leaps in the regional and international universities, and achieve the vital extension and integration with the needs of society to have a science role in the leadership and service of society.
Goals
1- Graduating agricultural engineers in scientific field of horticulture production to manage, develop and update Horticulture& Landscaping projects through the adoption of curricula that keep pace with the scientific and technical development in the advanced universities, and focus efforts to provide students with practical training in the implementation and management of orchards operations to gain practical experience.
2- Perform applied scientific researches in the specialties of horticulture, which aims to solve problems in the production process and the development of production facilities.
3- Provide the community with MSc. and PhD. graduated staff in Horticulture & Landscaping sciences according to the perspective of the actual need of the community for specialization and the emergence of new scientific specialties.
4- Departments participation in the formulation of the policy of horticulture projects in Diyala governorate and Iraq, according to scientific method of decision-making and planning to establish a new projects and improve the old projects.
