The Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Diyala, Professor Dr. Raed Ibrahim Khalil, chaired the committee for the defense of a Master’s thesis titled “The Effect of Adding Banana Peel Powder on Certain Production and Physiological Traits in Local Goat Offspring.”

The study presented by the student, Rahab Salah Mohsen, investigated the impact of banana peels on the production and physiological performance of the animals, including body weight, weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, total protein, albumin levels in serum, as well as liver enzymes and blood traits of local goat offspring.

The study yielded several conclusions, including: the addition of banana powder to the goats’ diets resulted in improved production traits, enhanced feed utilization, and better health status for the local goat offspring, as evidenced by the marked improvement in the hematological profile of the animals involved in the study. Furthermore, there was a significant improvement in liver and kidney functions, as indicated by the notable superiority of the animals fed with banana peels in the studied biochemical traits.

The study recommends conducting future research utilizing banana peels at a ratio of 6% in female goats to assess their impact on milk composition, using banana peels at higher levels to determine their effects on semen characteristics, and applying banana peels to other farm animals to understand their mechanisms of action and effects on carcass traits.
